“A sea of faces seen on May 13th [on the lunar calendar] ” is an expression used to describe the busiest day every year at Dadaocheng. On that day, there is an important procession, which consists of Daijiang Eight Major clubs and parade-leading teams from several areas. The procession sets out from the Baoan Temple at Dalonglongdong in Taipei and stops at several major temples. Along the way, shop owners at Dadaocheng will welcome the procession with offerings before it returns to the Xia-hai City-God Temple.
Tsung-jung Hsieh, a well-known ethnographer in Taiwan, spent more than a year researching Xiahai City-God Temple's architecture, ceremonies, and literature, and composed a book, entitled Taipei Xiahai Chenghuang Temple, Xiahai City-God Temple, Taipei. It's our pleasure to have him as this session's speaker and tour guide for the procession.
